CBSE Urges Schools to Strictly Adhere to Timelines for Direct Admissions and Subject Change Requests for Classes 10 & 12

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a firm directive to all its affiliated schools to strictly follow the prescribed deadlines for direct admissions and subject change requests in Classes 10 and 12 for the academic session 2025-26. This move aims to ensure smooth and timely preparations for the upcoming board examinations, benefiting nearly 35 lakh students across India and abroad.

According to the CBSE notification, the final date for schools to complete all direct admissions and subject change requests is August 31, 2025. Schools are mandated to compile all such cases in a tabular format, supported by relevant documents, and submit them to their respective regional offices by September 2, 2025. The regional offices will then complete the approval process by September 15, 2025.

The Board has stipulated that no requests for admissions or subject changes will be accepted beyond August 31, 2025, except in special cases involving the transfer of government employees. In such cases, the admission details must reach the concerned regional office within two days of admission.

In addition, CBSE is operationalizing four new regional offices from September 1, 2025, along with establishing three sub-regional offices under the Guwahati Regional Office, located at Agartala, Itanagar, and Gangtok. However, until the new offices are fully functional, all cases will be managed by the existing parent regional offices.

CBSE’s strict adherence policy is intended to minimize last-minute administrative delays, maintain uniformity in admission and subject change processing, and ensure the fair and transparent conduct of examinations.

Parents, students, and school authorities are urged to comply diligently with these timelines to avoid any disruptions in examination registrations and academic scheduling for the session 2025-26.
