NEET PG 2025 exam postponed amid single shift format compliance

By Gaurav Tyagi, Founder, Career Xpert

The NEET PG 2025 test has been rescheduled, according to the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). The exam was originally set for June 15 but has been postponed to allow for a single shift format. This ruling is in line with a Supreme Court order to guarantee impartiality and uniformity throughout the evaluation procedure.

The Supreme Court’s order regarding the single shift test

A petition that raised concerns about possible injustice in a multi-session exam format, which could result in different levels of difficulty, led to the Supreme Court’s ruling. The panel, which included Justices Vikram Nath, Sanjay Kumar, and NK Anjaria, emphasized how crucial it is to uphold consistent standards for a nationwide exam.

In order to guarantee equal assessment circumstances for every applicant, the NEET-PG has historically been administered as a single-shift, single-day test.

Preparations for the updated exam structure

NBEMS is aggressively setting up more testing locations across the country to support the single shift exam format in accordance with the court’s direction. A public notice reads, “We, accordingly, direct the respondents to make necessary arrangements for holding the NEET-PG 2025 examination in one shift, duly ensuring that complete transparency is maintained and secure centres are identified and commissioned.” It is anticipated that this action will preserve the honesty and openness of the examination procedure.

The consequences of the delay

Both the examination board and candidates will be impacted by the decision to postpone the test. NBEMS is responsible for organizing the new format’s logistics, but candidates need to get ready for a new exam date. If the arrangements are not finished by the initial date of June 15, NBEMS stated that they may request an extension. This adaptability is essential to guaranteeing that the infrastructure required to facilitate a smooth examination process is in place.

Candidates have been told by NBEMS that new exam dates will be released soon. Candidates are encouraged to periodically review official correspondence for updates in the interim. The exam board wants to reduce ambiguity and give applicants enough time to get used to the updated timetable.

The background of the NEET-PG test structure

In order to guarantee consistent assessment conditions, the NEET-PG exam has historically been administered in a single shift format. This custom, which was brought to light by the recent Supreme Court decision, emphasizes how crucial it is to have uniform testing settings in order to preserve equity and avoid apparent differences in exam difficulty between sessions.
