CBSE Clarifies: Punjabi Language Not Removed from Two-Board Exam System

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially clarified that Punjabi has not been removed from its two-board exam system, addressing concerns raised by students, parents, and educators.

Recent social media discussions and reports had suggested that CBSE had excluded Punjabi from its curriculum under the new examination framework. However, the board has refuted these claims, affirming that Punjabi remains a part of its language options and will continue to be offered at both the secondary and senior secondary levels.

A CBSE spokesperson stated, “Punjabi, along with other regional languages, continues to be part of the curriculum. There has been no change in its status under the two-board exam system.” The board also urged students and parents to refer to official notifications instead of relying on unverified sources.

The clarification comes amid concerns that the language’s exclusion could impact students, particularly in states like Punjab, where Punjabi is widely spoken and studied. Educationists and political leaders had raised the issue, emphasizing the importance of linguistic diversity in education.

CBSE has reiterated its commitment to promoting multilingualism and regional languages in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which encourages a diverse and inclusive learning environment.

For further updates, students and parents are advised to check CBSE’s official website or contact their respective schools.
