2025 International Day of Women and Girls in Science Theme: This year celebrates the tenth International Day of Women and Girls in Science, themed ‘Unpacking STEM careers: Her Voice in Science’.
International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2025: According to UNESCO, science in the 21st century is dynamic, collaborative, and diverse, acting as a powerful tool to tackle global challenges beyond laboratories. This year, we celebrate the 10th International Day of Women and Girls in Science, themed ‘Unpacking STEM careers: Her Voice in Science’.
Every February 11 marks the celebration of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. This day is marked by the United Nations as part of efforts to ensure that women have equal and complete access to, and involvement in, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
During its 55th session on March 14, 2011, the Commission on the Status of Women approved a report containing agreed conclusions about the participation of women and girls in education, training, and science and technology.
As stated on the UN’s International Day of Women and Girls in Science website, the report also underscored the importance of fostering equal opportunities for women to attain full employment and equitable working conditions.
Moreover, on December 20, 2013, the General Assembly adopted a resolution concerning science, technology, and innovation for development, recognizing that guaranteeing equal access to and participation in these areas for women and girls of all ages is vital for promoting gender equality and their empowerment.
According to the United Nations, “the empowerment of women and girls and gender equality will make a vital contribution not only to global economic development but also to progress across all the goals and targets of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.”
