NEET PG 2025 Cut-Off Trends: How Scores Fluctuated Over the Past 5 Years

New Delhi, August 21 – The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has officially declared the NEET PG 2025 results on August 19, announcing the qualifying cut-offs for admissions to MD, MS, DNB, DrNB (Direct 6 years) and PG Diploma programmes. The exam was conducted on August 3 across 301 cities and 1,052 centres, with over 2.42 lakh candidates appearing this year.

For 2025, the qualifying cut-offs have been set at:

General/EWS: 50th percentile – 276 marks

General PwBD: 45th percentile – 255 marks

SC/ST/OBC (including PwBD): 40th percentile – 235 marks

NBEMS has clarified that no re-checking, re-evaluation, or re-totalling requests will be entertained.

How Do These Numbers Compare with Previous Years?

The past five years of NEET PG cut-off data reveal a turbulent trend, influenced not only by exam difficulty but also by significant policy decisions and government interventions.

NEET PG 2024: Only Percentiles Declared

Unlike most years, in 2024 only percentile cut-offs were announced:

General/EWS – 50th percentile

General PwBD – 45th percentile

SC/ST/OBC – 40th percentile
No equivalent minimum marks were released, leaving candidates without a direct score benchmark.

NEET PG 2023: Cut-Offs Later Reduced to Zero

The 2023 cut-offs were initially set at 291 (General), 274 (General PwBD), and 257 (SC/ST/OBC). However, in an unprecedented decision, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare later reduced the cut-off percentile to zero for all categories, effectively making every candidate eligible for counselling. This controversial move marked a historic departure from tradition.

NEET PG 2022: A Stable Year

In 2022, the cut-offs were announced as 275 (General), 260 (PwBD), and 245 (SC/ST/OBC). No revisions were made, making it one of the more stable years in recent times.

NEET PG 2021: Revised After Announcement

Initially, 2021 cut-offs were higher—302 (General), 283 (PwBD), and 265 (SC/ST/OBC). But after protests and review, the Ministry revised the cut-offs downward:

General – 247 (35th percentile)

PwBD – 229 (30th percentile)

SC/ST/OBC – 210 (25th percentile)

Five-Year Cut-Off Overview

2025 276 (50th) 255 (45th) 235 (40th)
2024 50th percentile 45th percentile 40th percentile
2023 (Initial) 291 (50th) 274 (45th) 257 (40th)
2023 (Revised) 0 percentile 0 percentile 0 percentile
2022 275 (50th) 260 (45th) 245 (40th)
2021 (Initial) 302 (50th) 283 (45th) 265 (40th)
2021 (Revised) 247 (35th) 229 (30th) 210 (25th)

Key Takeaways

  • 2021 and 2023 saw major revisions, lowering the threshold for eligibility.
  • 2022 remained steady, with no policy-driven changes.
  • 2024 created confusion by withholding marks, providing only percentiles.
  • 2025 marks a return to normalcy, with percentile-based cut-offs clearly mapped to scores.

The data highlights that while exam difficulty plays a role in determining cut-offs, policy interventions by the Health Ministry have been the most decisive factor in shaping NEET PG eligibility in recent years.
