The petitioner said the JEE (Mains) examination was conducted in multiple shifts and several chances were given to students to reduce psychological pressure and motivate them to improve their grades.
On Tuesday, the Delhi High Court declined to consider a request for the NEET UG examination to be held biannually, similar to the Joint Entrance Examination Main (JEE Main) for engineering courses.
The bench, comprising Chief Justice D K Upadhyaya and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela, stated that the choice to hold examinations twice a year or not fell within the administrative domain and was beyond the courts’ jurisdiction.
“It is up to the authorities to consider the prayer. “That’s a policy decision made by the government,” it stated. While the high court disposed of the petition, it granted the petitioner—who works as a teacher in a coaching centre—the liberty to make a representation to the relevant authorities.
The court stated that if any applications or representations were submitted to the authorities, they should evaluate them and make a suitable decision in accordance with the law.
The petitioner stated that the JEE (Mains) examination was held in multiple shifts and that students were given several opportunities to alleviate psychological pressure and encourage grade improvement.
However, participants in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) (UG) were only given one opportunity. The plea also stated that they should be given multiple chances. The bench noted that there are many other competitive exams where candidates do not have multiple opportunities.
