Padma Awards 2025: 139 Awardees include pioneers in Literature and Education

In 2025, the Padma Awards acknowledged 139 outstanding individuals for their contributions in various domains, including literature, education, arts, and public service. Thirty of them were recognized for their extraordinary influence on literature and education.

In India, the Padma Awards are the highest civilian honors. Excellence in various domains, including literature, education, arts, science, and public services, was honored on Saturday. This year, the President sanctioned 139 awardees across three categories: Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan, and Padma Shri. 30 of them were acknowledged for their accomplishments in literature and education.

CATEGORY OF PADMA AWARDS 

It comprises three annual award categories, namely,

  • Padma Vibhushan: For service that is exceptional and distinguished.
  • Padma Bhushan: Awarded for exceptional service.
  • Padma Shri: Awarded for exceptional service in any area of work.

For one duo, there is a single listing as well. In this instance, the group award is regarded as an honour.

LITERATURE AND EDUCATION HIGHLIGHTS 

The awards aimed to recognize the contributions of authors, teachers, journalists, and students who have enriched society. The following is a list of 30 recipients in the literature and education category:

AWARD SELECTION PROCESS 

The Padma Awards Committee, which is established by the Prime Minister each year, makes recommendations. This committee consists of the Secretary to the Cabinet, heads of other Departments, and other distinguished individuals.

After creating a shortlist, the PM and the President seek such recommendations for approval. The Padma Awards of this year highlight the government’s dedication to recognizing exceptional contributions across various domains, particularly in literature and education.
