Amid disputes over teachers’ salaries, coaching institutes of FIITJEE in multiple states have been closed. In Noida and Ghaziabad, parents demonstrated against the abrupt shutting down of centres.
In the past week, the FIIT JEE coaching centres in cities such as Noida, Ghaziabad, Bhopal, Varanasi, Delhi, and Patna have closed down, leaving hundreds of parents confused and fearful as the board and entrance examinations approach. FIITJEE centres were closed in multiple cities following a significant number of teacher resignations due to unpaid salaries.
The most recently added item on the list is Meerut (Uttar Pradesh). In protest against the suspension of classes without advance notice and alleged mismanagement, over 100 parents assembled outside the FIITJEE coaching center in Noida’s Sector 62. During the protest, parents asserted that they had prepaid for two years of fees, yet only 40 percent of the curriculum was covered.
One parent commented, “We placed our trust in FIITJEE regarding our children’s future, but they have abandoned us at a critical moment. Currently, educators are contacting us one by one, requesting that we become part of other institutions. This cannot be accepted.
The problem intensified when parents got messages from teachers saying they had resigned because of financial problems at FIITJEE and had moved to other coaching centres. Parents were encouraged to transfer their children to these new centres, but many declined, asserting that they had paid fees to FIITJEE and calling for accountability.
Following parental demands, FIRs have been lodged against FIITJEE centers in multiple cities.
PROTESTS IN OTHER CITIES
In Ghaziabad, similar protests erupted outside FIITJEE’s RDC Rajnagar branch, where parents approached the District School Inspector and District Magistrate. During the inquiry, the District School Inspector, Dharmendra Sharma, found that the institute was not registered. A case was subsequently filed against the RDC branch management at Kavi Nagar police station. Later on, a case was registered against the management of the RDC branch at Kavi Nagar police station.
Now, the protesting parents are insisting on either a guarantee that their children’s syllabus will be finished or a 60% refund of the fees. “The education of our children is precarious. “If FIITJEE is unable to resolve this, they need to refund our money,” said another parent at the protest in Noida.
Currently, classes are ongoing at the RDC branch; however, there are lingering concerns about the future of students enrolled in the Noida and Ghaziabad centres. Parents have submitted written complaints to the police and are waiting for action against the institute for alleged fraud.
FIITJEE’s management has not provided an official statement, despite numerous attempts. Parents state they will keep protesting until a resolution is achieved.
The FIITJEE coaching institution is currently grappling with a financial crisis, which has been exacerbated by increased administrative and civic actions against its branches for violating licensing and safety regulations. In 1992, the FIITJEE institute was established by DK Goel, a graduate of IIT Delhi in mechanical engineering.
The coaching institute is renowned for its preparation for engineering entrance exams and NEET entrance coaching. FIITjee operates 72 centres in 41 cities nationwide and has a workforce of more than 300.
