Chennai | October 2025: The Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) has launched a nationwide training and assessment initiative — the National Internship, Placement Training, and Assessment (NIPTA) program — aimed at strengthening the employability of engineering and diploma students across India. The initiative was formally launched by Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Designed as a 10–12 week program, NIPTA offers students curated training modules in technical subjects, mathematical aptitude, logical reasoning, and communication skills, followed by a three-hour standardised assessment. The results will act as a benchmark for employability, enabling recruiters to identify skilled talent more effectively.
As part of its inclusive approach, IIT Madras will provide free training resources, including video lectures and sample questions, while students will only pay a nominal fee to appear for the final assessment.
Speaking about the initiative, Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, said:
“With several thousands of students aspiring to take internships and placements, the NIPTA initiative is very timely. It also aligns with our motto ‘IITM For All,’ wherein we aim to democratise opportunities for students across the country.”
NIPTA is open to engineering students (3rd and final year), graduates, and final-year diploma students or diploma holders.
To further connect learners with industry, IIT Madras plans to share the assessment results with recruiters and host a National Job and Internship Mela — virtually or in person — in early 2026, creating a seamless bridge between academia and employment.
