India’s First AI University to be established in Maharashtra

The university will foster research and development in AI and its related domains, serving as a center of excellence that promotes collaboration among industry, academia, and government.

Maharashtra plans to set up India’s first artificial intelligence (AI) university and a task force has been formed to plan and execute the project, state IT Minister Ashish Shelar said.

The university will be a centre of excellence that will drive research and development in AI and related fields and encourage collaboration between industry, academia and government, Shelar said on Saturday night. The working group includes experts from academia, industry and government.

He works on the creation of institutions for artificial intelligence education, research and innovation. Shelar said that the initiative matched the BJP election manifesto, which emphasized the use of technology for development.

“The university will promote research and development in AI and related fields. It will also focus on skills development, technological innovation and policy formulation. “Our aim is to make Maharashtra a hub of AI education and innovation,” he said.

Who constitutes the task force?

The principal secretary of the Information Technology department will chair the task force. It encompasses directors from IIT Mumbai and IIM Mumbai, representatives from companies such as Google India, Mahindra Group, and L&T, as well as officials from the Government of India’s Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology.

The task force also includes specialists from the Data Security IIM Mumbai Council of India and the Rajiv Gandhi Science and Technology Commission.

The AI university will serve as a hub of excellence, promoting collaboration among industry, academia, and government. As Shelar stated, this initiative will help establish Maharashtra as a worldwide AI leader while also aiding in the advancement of technology in India.

The task force has convened twice and is in the process of completing the roadmap for establishing the university. The minister stated that the government’s decision demonstrates its commitment to turning Maharashtra into a center for technology and innovation.
