The vice chancellor guarantees facilities for Delhi University’s upcoming fourth year.

There are just a few weeks remaining for Delhi University to repair the damaged labs, classrooms, and academic schedules. The resolution of these issues prior to the start of the academic year will determine the performance of the incoming fourth year.

Vice-Chancellor Yogesh Singh has acknowledged the concerns expressed by teachers and students as Delhi University gets ready to begin the fourth year of its Four-Year Undergraduate Programme (FYUP) in August, but he has also pledged to offer the facilities that are required.

Singh told PTI that the worries are “very genuine.” This is the first time that skill, entrepreneurship, and research are being prioritized. These are fresh routes. Although instructors are worried, this fourth year will revolutionize undergraduate education in our nation.

The fourth-year FYUP deployment has been criticized for its inadequate infrastructure, unfinished curricula, and unclear academic structure. According to reports, a number of universities lack the updated labs, libraries, and educational materials needed to handle the longer curriculum.

The Vice-Chancellor encouraged students to enroll without hesitation in spite of the problems. “Don’t be concerned. Facilities will be constructed if none are already there. He reaffirmed the university’s commitment to the transformation, saying, “It is in the interest of our students.”

But not everybody is persuaded. Education experts and teachers’ associations have voiced concerns about the university’s readiness. Without enough preparation, some worry that the fourth year could lead to a rise in dropout rates, especially among students who aren’t sure of its worth.

Concerns about being overworked and lacking sufficient funding or resources have also been raised by faculty members.

DU is rushing to fill the voids with just over a month until the start of the next academic year. Whether the new structure will result in significant change or fall short of expectations will depend on how the university handles these intellectual and practical obstacles.

Under the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, the FYUP reform is a component of the larger education reforms that seek to implement flexibility, multidisciplinary learning, and skill-based education at the undergraduate level.
